Beginning in March, partners from other specialties will join the Emory Women’s Center. Too often, a woman has to visit several different clinics to address various aspect of the same issue. By bringing together experts from across Emory Clinic to create the Emory Women’s Center, we have created a space for our female patients to receive unparalleled comprehensive care under one roof. From well-woman care to subspecialty concerns, we provide a collaborative approach that’s more convenient for patients’ schedules.

We look forward to welcoming the following providers in March:

Gina Lundberg, MD
Appointments: 404-251-1900

Colorectal Surgery
Virginia Shaffer, MD

Seema Kini, MD

Roberto Pacifici, MD

Kavya Sebastian, MD

March of Dimes Recognizes EUHM for Reducing Elective Deliveries

Emory University Hospital Midtown was recognized by the March of Dimes for reducing the number of elective inductions and deliveries performed before 39 weeks of pregnancy. “Emory University Hospital Midtown was an early adopter of this program, responding to medical evidence that complications, such as low birth weight and respiratory distress, could be significantly decreased if elective delivery before 39 weeks was avoided,” said Carrie Cwiak, MD, MPH, associate professor and physician lead of this program. Residents Present at SAAOG

Our residents represented our department well at the annual meeting of the South Atlantic Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (SAAOG). Five residents – Vinita Alexander, MD; Elise Bardawil, MD; Rachel Shulman, MD; Katherine de Souza, MD; and Megan Lawley, MD – presented their research on topics ranging from weight gain in pregnancy to cost effectiveness of surveillance strategies for women with ovarian cancer. To see full titles and photos of our residents presenting, please visit our news page.

Alumni: Send Us Your Photos and Memories

Invitations will soon arrive for our celebration of the 50th Anniversary of John D. Thompson Resident and Fellow Research Day. The event will take place April 15-April 16. Ahead of the event, alumni of our residency and fellowship programs are asked to send photographs of their time in the department as well as written memories of their experience with research or of John D. Thompson. These photos and recollections will be used in the program on April 16. Photographs and memories can be sent to Molly Edmonds at molly.edmonds@emory.edu.

Staff Spotlight: Lakisha Hudson-Benbow

Our department's call center is receiving lots of recognition - last month, our agents were recognized as the top-performing group for all of Patient Access! And in November, Patient Access Specialist Lakisha Hudson-Benbow was recognized as the top-performing agent out of the more than 200 people who work in Patient Access! This accomplishment is truly remarkable when you consider that Lakisha had been with our department for less than a year when she achieved this honor. Meet Lakisha.
